POS Device & System Requirements

The KukuExpress POS app runs on ordinary Android and iOS tablets and phones — you don't need dedicated POS hardware. Check the versions below before buying or repurposing a device, because an operating system that is too old cannot install the app at all.

Minimum operating system

Anything newer than the minimum works. A device below it will not find the app in the store, or will refuse to install it.

To check your Android version, open Settings → About phone → Android version. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → General → About → Software Version.

Choosing a device

• Screen — a tablet of about 8 inches or larger is far more comfortable for taking orders. Phones work and are handy as a second terminal or for line-busting.
• Storage — the app keeps your whole catalog and any unsynced sales on the device. Leave a couple of gigabytes free, especially if you take receiving photos.
• Battery — a terminal that lives on the counter should stay plugged in. Keep a charger on the till.
• Age — a very old device may still meet the version floor but feel slow with a large catalog. Prefer a device that is still receiving security updates from its manufacturer.

What the app uses your device for

• Bluetooth — for receipt printers. See the printing note below.
• Camera — for receiving photos and scanning. Optional; the app runs on a device without one.
• Notifications — for incoming online orders. On Android 13 and newer you must allow the notification prompt the first time it appears, or you will not be alerted to new orders.
• Internet — Wi-Fi or mobile data for syncing. See offline selling below.

Receipt printers

The POS prints to Bluetooth Classic receipt printers. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) printers are not supported.

• Pair the printer in your device's own Bluetooth settings first, then select it inside the POS app. The app can only see printers the device has already paired with.
• On Android 12 and newer, allow the Nearby devices permission when the app asks. Without it the printer list stays empty.

Internet connection and offline selling

You need a connection for the first login, which downloads your catalog, and for syncing afterwards. Once set up, the POS keeps selling with no connection at all — sales are queued on the device and upload automatically when you are back online. A pending-sync indicator shows what is still waiting.

Because unsynced sales live only on that device, don't factory-reset, uninstall, or replace a terminal while it still shows pending items. Get it online and let it finish syncing first.

Multiple terminals

You can run the POS on as many devices as you need in the same store. Each device registers itself on first login and keeps its own cash drawer session, so several cashiers can work side by side.
