Composite Products & Recipes

Mar 11, 2026 · 2 views

Composite products (also known as recipes or bundles) are products made up of other items in your inventory. When a composite product is sold, the system automatically deducts the component ingredients from stock.

Creating a Composite Product

  1. Go to Products and edit or create a product.
  2. Set the Product Type to Composite.
  3. In the Bill of Materials section, add component items:
    • Search for an existing product
    • Set the quantity needed per unit of the composite product
  4. Save the product.

How It Works

  • When a composite product is sold at the POS, each component's stock is reduced by the recipe quantity.
  • The composite product itself does not need to hold stock — it's virtual, assembled from its components.
  • Cost is calculated as the sum of component costs.

Use Cases

  • Restaurant recipes — a "Burger Meal" deducts bun, patty, fries, and drink from inventory
  • Kits & bundles — a "Gift Set" deducts individual items
  • Assembly — a finished product made from raw materials

Production Orders

For more complex manufacturing workflows, use Production Orders (under Production in the sidebar) to batch-produce composite items, track work-in-progress, and manage production scheduling.
