Setting Up Your Referral Program

Aug 6, 2026 · 31 views
Not the same as the KukuExpress Referral Program. That one pays you platform credits for introducing another business to KukuExpress, and lives under Earn. This one is yours: you reward people who bring your store customers, and you pay them in your own loyalty points.

What it does

You give someone — an influencer, a barangay partner, a loyal regular — their own code, for example MAYA10. When a customer orders using that code, two things happen:

  • The referrer earns loyalty points, which they can spend in your store like any other customer.
  • The customer gets bonus points too, if you set a customer bonus.

The order total never changes. A referral code is not a discount — nothing comes off the price at the till, and your sales reports are unaffected. The cost shows up later, as points someone eventually redeems.

Step 1 — Turn on loyalty points

Go to Marketing → Loyalty Program. Referral rewards are paid in points, so if loyalty is switched off your referrers will earn points nobody can ever spend. You will see a warning until you turn it on.

Set two numbers:

  • Points earned per ₱ spent — the normal earn rate. At 0.01, a customer earns 1 point for every ₱100.
  • ₱ value of 1 point — what a point is worth when redeemed. At 1.00, 1 point = ₱1.

Underneath, the page restates both as one sentence — "Spending ₱1,000 earns 10 points, worth ₱10 — an effective 1.00% reward." Read that line before saving. It is easy to set the two rates so they multiply into something far more generous than intended, and the sentence is there to catch it.

You can also set a minimum before redeeming and a maximum % of an order payable with points.

Step 2 — Set what a referral is worth

From the Loyalty page, open Referral Program, then the Settings tab.

  • Referrer earns — either a flat number of points per order, or a percentage of the order value. A percentage is converted to points using your earn rate above.
  • Customer bonus — the same choice, for the person actually buying. Leave it at 0 if only the referrer should earn.
  • Minimum order value — orders below this earn nothing.

Step 3 — Set your limits

Points are a real liability: every point you issue is something you eventually honour. These caps are how you bound it.

  • Max points per referrer per day — stops any one code running away in a single day.
  • Max points per referrer, lifetime — a ceiling on what one person can ever earn.
  • Max referred orders per customer per day — defaults to 1. This is your anti-abuse setting: it stops the same buyer being rung up over and over to farm one code. At normal shopping frequency it never triggers. Raise it only if you genuinely expect repeat same-day orders.
  • Total program budget (points) — the hard ceiling for the whole program. Once it is used up, no further orders earn.
  • Max total referred orders — an alternative ceiling, counted in orders rather than points.

Any limit left blank means unlimited. If you switch the program on with no budget set, you will be asked to tick a box confirming you accept an unbounded cost — that is deliberate friction, not a bug.

Reward every order a referred customer places is on by default. Switch it off to reward only a customer's first order with that code.

Starts / Ends let you run the program as a campaign. Outside those dates, codes stop earning. Points already earned are never taken back when a campaign ends.

Step 4 — Add your referrers

On the Referrers tab, press Add Referrer.

  • Name — how you will recognise them, e.g. "Maya Cruz" or "@mayacooks".
  • Referral code — type your own, or press Generate for one that avoids easily-confused characters (no O/0 or I/1). Codes only need to be unique within your store, so two stores can both run SUMMER10.
  • Phone and email — worth filling in. They are how the system recognises a referrer trying to use their own code, even if they check out under a different name.
  • Daily / lifetime points cap — per-person overrides. Leave blank to use the program defaults.

A customer record is created for each referrer automatically, because that is where their points are held. This is intentional: it means an influencer can walk into your store and spend what they earned through the ordinary POS flow, with no special handling.

Step 5 — Share the code

Each referrer row has a link icon that copies a shareable URL — your storefront with their code already attached, like yourstore.com?ref=MAYA10. Anyone arriving through that link has the code waiting for them at checkout; they never have to type it.

Customers can also type the code by hand in the Referral Code box at online checkout. Entering a code makes the mobile number required, because the bonus points need a customer record to live in.

Where codes can be used today

  • Your online store — the Referral Code box at checkout, or a ?ref= link.
  • Back-office orders — the Referral Code field on the order form, which checks the code as you type and shows you who earns what before you save.
  • The POS app — coming in a future POS release.

Pausing and removing

Use Pause to stop a code earning while keeping its history. A referrer who has already earned cannot be deleted — pause them instead, so their earnings record stays intact. Delete is only available for someone who never earned anything.
